Oshane likes the community in Murphy Hall.
Why did you decide to pursue your major?
Coming into college, I had a lot of mixed thoughts about what I wanted to do. Ultimately, I realized that I love how relationship-focused public relations is. I decided that being a professional with the ability to form and maintain relationships with companies and their consumers with words is personally and professionally fulfilling.
What has been your favorite part of your experience at the Hubbard School?
Connecting with the students, professors and other faculty at the Hubbard School has been my favorite part. I have learned so much about the endless possibilities available at our school and because we all share a building, I have formed a community here. I never expected to form a sense of pride towards my school, but now that I am a senior, I am very proud to be a part of the Hubbard school community.
Which course or professor would you recommend to other students in your major?
I am biased, but I think taking a course with Jill Bonham is an amazing opportunity for strategic communication majors to learn a different side of our major. I highly recommend taking Jour 3279W: Professional Writing because you get the chance to write amazing pieces of work with the guidance of Jill.
What minors, internships, or activities are you pursuing outside of your major? How do you think these enhance your majors and/or your future career plans?
Outside of my major, I am the chapter president of PRSSA. As a PRSSA member, I had the opportunity to attend local Minnesota PRSA events like PR North and National events such as the PRSSA midwest district conference in Chicago and the PRSSA leadership assembly in Seattle.
What advice do you have for future Hubbard School students?
Get involved and take the opportunities.
What is one aspect of your major that has surprised you?
I think it's amazing how career focused strategic communication is. We constantly go into depth about the routes we can take in our careers and we get opportunities to hone in on our skills. After connecting with other students in schools outside of the Hubbard school, I am grateful for how much our school preps us for the workforce.
