Why did you decide to pursue your major?
I decided to pursue this major because of the creativity and flexibility it brought to my education. I’ve always been artistically inclined, and that is a part of myself I am so excited to keep exploring at the Hubbard School.

What has been your favorite part of your experience at the Hubbard School?
My favorite part of my Hubbard School experience has been meeting industry professionals at various events offered throughout the year. It’s not only helped me grow my network but has granted me comfortability around future career goals having met people who have been in my shoes.

Which course or professor would you recommend to other students in your major?
I recommend the course JOUR 3279W Professional Writing for Strategic Communication to other students in this major. If you want to fine-tune your writing skills, gather a portfolio of work samples, and work on your branding - this is the course for you! I loved the insights this course offered concerning PR.

What minors, internships, or activities are you pursuing outside of your major? How do you think these enhance your majors and/or your future career plans?
The nice thing about a major in the Hubbard School is that it allows you to explore a multitude of minors. I have chosen to minor in Management (marketing) and Business Law - both of which are topics of study within our business school here at the U. You don’t need to choose a minor, however, I feel mine have prepared me for higher education plans such as law school and a career in the business world. I am also the vice president of PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America), a student organization at Hubbard. My involvement in this area has been exponential in shaping my time in college and forming my career goals. I’ve gotten access to numerous connections, volunteer opportunities, and work experiences in the PR field. We also have a great faculty advisor, Jill (Spiekerman) Bonham, MA, APR, Fellow PRSA, who you’ll want to meet here in Murphy Hall!

What advice do you have for future Hubbard School students?
Don’t feel the need to have it all figured out immediately! Being a Hubbard student gives you the time to earn an education while learning and growing personally. This school will serve as a strong guidepost when making your way towards graduation.

What is one aspect of your major that has surprised you?
I continue to be surprised by how many future career opportunities my major offers. You never know where you might end up. Exercise the freedom you have to explore!
