Why did you decide to pursue your major?
I came to the U without a clear career path in mind. As I took different courses and explored various opportunities, I discovered that connecting with others was my true passion. When I found the Hubbard School and the Strat Comm major, it felt like the perfect fit—it matched my interests and offered flexible career options.

What has been your favorite part of your experience at the Hubbard School?
The professors and instructors in the Hubbard School are easily the best part. They are extremely knowledgeable, but also care deeply about their students and their success. It makes attending class and completing assignments easy when there is a purpose behind everything, and that is thanks to the course instructors.

Which course or professor would you recommend to other students in your major?
Take any class you can with Stacie Swenson! I took JOUR 3279W - Professional Writing for Strat Comm with her, and was blown away by the care she shows her students. She truly wants what is best for their careers, providing opportunities to connect with professionals and always offering up any advice she can. The feedback she gave turned me into a better writer and made me feel more prepared for my career.

What minors, internships, or activities are you pursuing outside of your major? How do you think these enhance your majors and/or your future career plans?
I am minoring in Digital Media Studies, which is offered by the Hubbard School. It allows me to explore courses outside of my major that help to prepare me for a career in the digital age. I am also a member of Ski-U-Crew, the official student section of the U, and specifically work with the Barnyard! The work we do with Men’s Basketball makes me more comfortable taking a leadership role and putting myself out there!

What advice do you have for future Hubbard School students?
Truly apply yourself to every assignment and project you complete. The courses are set up to prepare you for a future career, and build skills that can help you succeed in whatever field you go into. By taking advantage of the opportunities that are already provided to you by instructors, you can get a leg up when entering the industry.

What is one aspect of your major that has surprised you?
I was surprised just how many classes are available within the Hubbard School and the Strat Comm major. There is an option to learn and gain skills in almost any area of the industry you can think of, from media design to the psychology of advertising. Whatever interest you have, there is something for you!
