TIffany Bui

Intern at MinnPost

Tiffany was able to successfully complete a remote internship during Summer 2020, at the height of the pandemic.

With which organization did you intern? MinnPost

Where is it located? Minneapolis

How did you find out about the internship? I was placed at MinnPost through the Emma Bowen Foundation

What were your responsibilities? Writing in-depth stories on metro issues and communities of color, as well as writing briefs on the Minnesota Department of Health's COVID-19 updates.

What are your tips for managing a remote internship during the COVID-19 pandemic?
Communicate often, with your editors and your co-workers. It's hard to feel a sense of community when you're remote, but Slacking or texting your co-workers throughout the day helps. Also, you may run out of motivation, but don't be hard on yourself. We're weathering multiple crises right now. Take a breath and tackle things on your to-do list one at a time.

What did you most enjoy?
I had the freedom to write what I wanted at my own pace.

What is something that you learned from your internship experience?
How to set my own schedule.

What’s one piece of advice you would give other students about securing an exciting internship – in person or remote?
Find organizations that can help you connect to the jobs you want. The Emma Bowen Foundation and the Dow Jones News Fund internship are great.
