Intern at NCAA

What organization did you intern with? Where is it located?
During the summer I interned with the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) in Indianapolis, Indiana.

How did you find out about the internship?
I found out about the internship through LinkedIn.

What were your responsibilities?
As an intern for the Men's Basketball Division, I helped plan, prepare, and execute the social and digital plan for the College Basketball Academy. This included participating in weekly meetings, research, building a strategy timeline, and creating content.

What did you most enjoy about your role?
What I enjoyed most about my role was how open-ended it was. With my fellow social digital interns, we had the opportunity to come up with a plan from scratch and with little strict direction. This allowed us to explore and learn in a hands-on way I haven’t been able to do before.

What did you learn from your internship experience?
From my internship experience, I learned the importance of understanding a brand and being able to stay true to its mission. Anyone can hop on a trend but being able to recognize what is cohesive and will propel a message is what’s important.

How will this internship set you up for success in your future studies, or your career?
This internship will set me up for success in my future career because I learned valuable skills that can be translated into any work environment. For example, I learned to juggle many responsibilities and deadlines at once.

What is one piece of advice you would give other students seeking an exciting internship?
One piece of advice I would give other students seeking an exciting internship is to apply, even if you don’t think you’re qualified. It never hurts to apply, as the worst that can happen is you don’t get the job, so always shoot your shot.
