Natalie Trupke

Communications & Training and Development Intern

Major: Strategic Communication: Advertising and Public Relations
Graduation year: December 2022

What organization did you intern with?
Allied Solutions

Where is it located?
St Paul, MN

How did you find out about the internship?
Indeed

What were your responsibilities?
I assisted with writing, editing, and constructing a weekly internal sales newsletter. This consisted of product updates, upcoming webinars, and technology trainings! I was a big part of writing new articles and editing articles submitted from other departments at the company.

I created a new spreadsheet and leaderboard to organize an internal sales contest. This involved working in excel, learning how to input data and use formulas to automatically calculate sales points. I also worked with PowerPoint to create an easy-to-use and visually appealing document that showcases the top sales representatives every month.

I researched and planned an internal LinkedIn/Social Selling campaign. This began as an idea we had one day, thinking of the importance of LinkedIn for our sales representatives. I did extensive research on how LinkedIn can be used for sales, as well as collected data on how active our sales representatives currently were on LinkedIn. From there, I planned a training project that would involve helping each sales representative update their profiles and learn about LinkedIn.

I performed interactive training on deep editing and created training materials. I took a LinkedIn Learning course on the concept of deep editing and prepared a 1-hour interactive training that I would perform on my team. I created an activity to do, a presentation, and multiple handouts.

What did you most enjoy?
Creating a leaderboard to organize an internal sales contest - I got to design the look of the document that would be sent out every month to show sales representatives' rankings! I was able to use the company's branding colors as well as my own creativity to create a graphically appealing document.

What is something that you learned from your internship experience?
I learned I have a passion for training and development. I enjoy putting together trainings and teaching individuals something they didn’t know. The reward of helping someone feels really good!

How will your internship help you in your future studies/career?
I learned SO much about the corporate world in general that is extremely valuable.

What's one piece of advice you would give other students about securing an exciting internship?
Be open to everything! Even if you think you know what you want to do, keep your mind open to other positions you maybe have never even heard of.
