Intern at Fast Horse

Interview

With which organization did you intern?

I had the opportunity to intern at Fast Horse— an independent, integrated creative agency.

Where is it located?

Fast Horse is located in the North Loop of Minneapolis.

How did you find out about the internship?

I first became interested in Fast Horse during my sophomore year through my work at CLAgency, a student-run brand communications agency based out of the College of Liberal Arts here at the University of Minnesota. Jörg Pierach, the founder of Fast Horse and Hubbard School alum (BA ’89), currently serves on CLAgency’s Board of Advocates, in which he lends his expertise and guidance to our student employees as we emerge into the professional world. Through my connection to Jörg and position as Creative Director at CLAgency, I was extended an opportunity to intern at the agency this past summer to learn through immersion.

What were your responsibilities?

As a testament to Fast Horse’s dedication to integration, meaning that all parts of their business—creative, strategy, and media amplification— bolster each other, I got my hands on a wide spectrum of projects. Beyond my interest in creative services, I lent a hand in tasks involving influencer marketing and media relations.

What did you most enjoy?

Admisdt the day-to-day hustle of client work at Fast Horse, I enjoyed connecting with my co-workers across the entire agency. Their staff is loaded with talented individuals with deep knowledge that spans well beyond that of the marketing sphere. There was always a conversation or laugh to be had!

What is something that you learned from your internship experience?

Seeing how a brand campaign is designed from the start with the question, “How can we get people talking about this?” was incredibly interesting. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to catch firsthand how the entire process unfolds, in everything from the drafting of a creative brief, to the brainstorm, and then all the way to the media tracking and recap after a campaign’s execution.

How will the internship help you in your future studies/ career?

The momentum of my summer at Fast Horse is still going— I am currently interning at the agency as I finish up my last semester here at the Hubbard School. My experiences at Fast Horse have truly challenged my abilities in how I can stretch creativity across disciplines. I am extremely excited to continue pursuing work that puts a brilliant creative strategy and execution through a public-relations/media amplification lens.

What’s one piece of advice you would give other students about securing an exciting internship?

My nugget of advice for other students is to express your curiosity and eagerness. Whether you are networking with mentors, or interviewing for potential internship positions, people want to see that you are driven to learn and willing to challenge yourself. This “can-do” attitude will lend you far.
