Class of 2021 Recognition Event
The Hubbard School is planning a safe, in-person event to celebrate the Class of 2021! We are #UMNProud of all your accomplishments.
Let’s celebrate all you’ve accomplished at the University of Minnesota!
WHAT: Class of 2021 Recognition Event
WHO: All Class of 2021 graduates, plus up to three guests
WHERE: Murphy Hall Courtyard
WHEN: Friday, May 14, 2021
HERE’S HOW:
- Please RSVP. Undergraduate students and graduate students can pick a time slot to reserve your ticket. Your ticket allows you to bring up to three guests.
- During that time slot, you will check in, walk across the stage when your name is called, and get your photo taken.
- Finish off by grabbing a swag bag, taking candids at selfie stations, and moving about the rest of campus.
Additional Info:
- Guests will be directed through a roped-off walkway below the stage to take photos and cheer.
- Hubbard School faculty and staff will be onsite to wave and celebrate you.
- Wear your cap and gown (optional) and a mask!
The event will be confirmed 24 hours in advance. Event logistics will conform to requirements for gatherings during COVID-19 as determined by University of Minnesota’s sunrise plan and Minnesota Department of Health guidance in effect for May 14, 2021.
All attendees must be masked. Social distancing and COVID-19 event guidelines will be followed per the Minnesota Department of Health and the University of Minnesota.
In case of inclement weather, the event will move indoors to the first floor of Murphy Hall, in a safe and socially-distanced manner.
By RSVPing to this event, you and your guests agree to follow all safety protocols outlined in the University commencement protocols.
If you’re sick or feel sick on the day of the event, please stay home.
Note: This is not a commencement ceremony. The College of Liberal Arts is hosting a virtual commencement and degree conferral on May 16, 2021. CLA will mail your diploma cover this summer.

Class of 2021 Recognition Event FAQ
Thank you for your patience as we planned this event. Please know every precaution is being taken to keep students and guests safe and create an inclusive opportunity.
Will masks be worn and social-distancing guidelines be followed?
Yes. This event will meet all state and university parameters.
What if state guidelines around COVID-19 and social gatherings change before May 14, 2021?
If Minnesota state guidelines around COVID-19 and social gatherings tighten prior to May 14, 2021, we will update registered attendees on the status of this event via email. We will only host this event if state guidelines allow.
Can I bring more than 3 guests?
No. Each time slot allows for only a certain number of guests due to state and university social distancing guidelines.
How much are tickets?
There is no cost to attend this event.
I already registered, but now I can't make my time. Can I change my time slot?
Please contact Sue Couling ([email protected]) to check if there is available space in a different time slot.
What if it rains?
In case of inclement weather, we will move the event to the first floor of Murphy Hall. Enter the south entrance of Murphy Hall at your time and check in. Graduates and guests will proceed down the first-floor hall and exit out the north end of the building.
Can I participate if I graduated in Spring '20 (or Fall '19) or will be graduating Fall '22?
If you are not a Class of 2021 graduate (Fall 2020, Spring 2021, Summer 2021), please contact Sue Couling ([email protected]) to find out about a wait list option for other classes. Our goal is to include as many students as possible after accommodating the Spring 2021 class. Please note, the college continues to plan for an inclusive post-pandemic commencement ceremony for all classes affected by the pandemic.
How long will the event take?
From start to finish, your time in the space shouldn’t take any longer than 15 minutes. You’re free to explore the rest of campus before or after your time slot. There will be other selfie stations located at Johnston Hall and McNamara Alumni Center.
Where should I park?
Close options include the Church Street Garage and the Washington Avenue Parking Ramp. See Parking & Transportation Services for other options.
