Interview by Alex Smith

Why did you decide to become a Strategic Communications major?

I thoroughly enjoyed Jour 1001 my first semester at the University of Minnesota and fell in love with the School of Journalism and Mass Communication as soon as I began to dive into relevant coursework. The Strategic Communications major is a perfect convergence of communication, creativity and practical skills.

What has been your favorite part of your experience at Hubbard SJMC?

Undoubtedly, the work that we have been doing in Ad Club's subsidiary advertising agency, Verge, has been rewarding, enriching and a wonderful supplement to what I am learning in my SJMC classes.

Which professor has had the biggest impact on you?

Teaching Specialist Extraordinaire Len Mitsch has had the biggest impact on me as a student. His classes are highly relevant and practical. He shows a dedication to his students that is difficult for others to match. His expansive knowledge stems from over four decades of experience in the advertising industry. No one teaches and guides a class quite like Mr. Mitsch.

Are you pursuing any minors, internships, or fields of interest outside your Journalism major? If so, how do you think these enhance your study of Journalism?

My Spanish Studies minor has been helpful for giving me an additional global perspective to my studies.

How has being President of Ad Club impacted your experience as a student? What's the most important thing you've learned from it?

I have met countless advertising professionals that I otherwise would have never been in contact with. I have also met a lot of highly dedicated, passionate students who care about what they do and share the same goals as myself. This position has given me a multitude of opportunities and I am very grateful for it.

What advice do you have for future HSJMC students?

Get involved as soon as you possibly can. Don't be afraid to introduce yourself to people who can help you along your path to becoming a happy, productive member of society.
