This special event featured voices of Somali Minnesotans who shared their stories on how storytelling can bridge generations, as it has for other immigrant groups throughout U.S. history. The “listening session” was part of a 5-state reporting venture by The GroundTruth Project. Their reporting examines the issues that divide us and tells the stories that unite us.
Storytellers included:
- Said Salah Ahmed, playwright, poet, filmmaker, and teaching specialist at UMN Department of African American and African Studies
- Abdirizak Bihi, director of Somali Education and Social Advocacy Center, host of KFAI’s Somali Link Radio
- Ifrah Mansour, multimedia artist and playwright
- Saciido Shaie, president of the Minnesota Ummah Project, governor’s appointee to the Minnesota Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee
- Fatuma Mohamed, poet and student at the University of Minnesota
- Sisco, artist, youth mentor/organizer
