COVID-19 Information

Statement from Academic Program Director Stacey Kanihan about COVID-19 and course delivery for students

Our program is committed to providing the highest quality education to our strategic communication master’s students during these challenging times. Our curriculum is comprehensive and strong, and this has not changed. Our students are taking the same courses, in the same sequence, as they would if we were not facing this public health challenge -- and therefore they are learning the skills and strategies they will need at the managerial level of communications work without compromise. We are following public health safety guidelines as directed by the University and the state of Minnesota, and therefore have adapted our course delivery to be a blend of hybrid, remote and online learning. When we are online, we use state-of-the-art technology to engage students, and we are confident that many of these digital tools are being used in professional settings that students will be expected to know once they graduate. Our faculty are not only experts in their areas of strategic communication, but they are also experienced in teaching in multiple learning formats. When we are on the other side of this pandemic our current students will not only have their master’s degrees, but they will be equipped with the skills and tools to help them succeed in a professional environment that will likely incorporate virtual communications for years to come.
