How Algorithmic Intermediaries Shape Online Attention to News

presented by Nicholas Diakopoulos

As people seek news information online, platforms like Google, Twitter, Apple, Amazon and other news aggregators act as algorithmic gatekeepers and curators. In this talk, Nick Diakopoulos will present the results of several audit studies which will shed light on the role that such algorithmic intermediaries play in mediating and influencing human attention towards the news.

Nick Diakopoulos is an Assistant Professor in Communication Studies and Computer Science (by courtesy) at Northwestern University where he is Director of the Computational Journalism Lab (CJL).
